How to Skip a Rock

• Hold a round, smooth skipping rock horizontally with the flat side down.
• Curl your index finger around one edge of the rock.
• Stand at the shore of a large body of calm water.
• Aim the rock- you want it to fly parallel to the water's surface in a low arc straight out in front of you.
• Throw the rock so it flies a few inches above the water. Your arm will start sideways and a little behind your body at about waist level, your hand will travel past your waist and across your body.
• Release the rock with a snap of your wrist to give it a good spin when your elbow is about at your hip.
